My latest work in progress is getting a little special treatment! I decided to build my own stretcher bars to stretch some Belgian linen. Doing this from scratch was a new challenge, but I'm so happy with the result! Can't wait to share more progress with you as this one comes together.
Special thanks to Fraelo for assisting me in the frame shop. The National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society showcases just keep getting better and better. I'm so pleased to have been accepted into the international spring online exhibition! You can check it out on their website here: https://www.noaps.org/2023-spring-on-line
Out of 1,500 entrants, 200 paintings were selected from countries all over the world. Very cool! We just wrapped up a 10 week photography basics course here at ÀNI Dominicana! I'm so impressed with how the apprentices photography skills have improved over the last few months.
A lot of great photos came out of their homework projects! Very skillfully done. There were so many good ones, I couldn't include them all, but here are some of the highlights. Great work everyone!
Congratulations to all of the participants and winners of our Primer Anual Concurso de Arte - the first annual ÀNI Art Academies Dominicana Community Art Competition and Exhibition!
Every year, we host an art competition and gallery exhibition for the many talented artists of our community, offering award certificates, cash prizes, and the opportunity to exhibit in our Studio A gallery! Thank you to El Bohemio restaurant for providing this years catered lunch. If you missed it this year, we hope to see you at next years event! Thank you to all of the artists, staff, and community members who helped to make this years event a great success. It's my pleasure to announce the 2023 award winners: First Place - Miguelina Almonte Second Place - Joel Herrera Third Place - Genesis Gil Academy Choice Award - Emilio Hernandez Youth Artist Award - Maya Mensen "Portrait of Olive" is finally in her frame and off to the gallery! This is the first frame I've ever built from scratch, and I did all in the new frame shop at ÀNI Art Academies Dominicana! This was the first frame that was built there. I started with a test corner to try out the new tools and materials, then once I felt happy with the results I was getting I went ahead and built the whole thing.
I'm really liking the new frame shop space, and I have some more exciting frame projects in progress. Stay tuned! Great News! I'm very excited to announce that my painting, The Journeyman, won best of show at the 13th May Show at Lakeland! I wasn't able to be there in person but I got plenty of pictures of the beautiful venue and great artwork from friends and family. The last time I entered work into the May Show was in 2019 also with a self portrait. That same self portrait appears in The Journeyman and shows some of the progress I've made over the last few years on my journey towards mastery. Thanks to gallery director Mary Urbas, juror Claudia Berlinski, and my mother for accepting the award on my behalf.
It's been a busy few weeks! I enjoyed participating in several online exhibitions and competitions with a variety of interesting themes.
It's always exciting to find a themed show that's a good match for one of my paintings. Here you can see there were a few!: still life, figurative, and domestic animal art. I'm very happy to have won a merit award and two honorable mentions. Thank you to Teravarna, Light Space & Time, and Wild Heart galleries for the opportunity to participate! |
